Heavy drinking can cut risk of heart disease, says study

"Drinking a bottle of wine a day, or half a dozen beers, cuts the risk of heart disease by more than half in men, an extraordinary study reports."

My attention grabbed, I kept reading...

"Moderate drinkers, consuming up to a couple of glasses of wine a day or a couple of pints of ordinary bitter, had a 54 per cent lower risk.

The surprise was that heavy drinkers consuming up to a bottle of wine or six pints of ordinary bitter had a similar 50 per cent reduction in risk of a heart attack to moderate drinkers."

Here's to healthy hearts on Thanksgiving!

  1. Sir rusty, you didn't post the further discussion of that article. Really takes an interesting turn in terms of sentiment about alcohol intake.

  2. Sir Scott,

:) I did notice that turn in terms of sentiment. An interesting and much appreciated turn, but I didn't want to post it. A sobering reminder on an otherwise intoxicating piece of evidence. A real buzz kill.

But just to be on the safe side:

Kids, drinking is bad. Though it may help your heart die less quickly than it would otherwise, drinking kills (among other things) your liver, kidneys, brain cells as well as your chances at that philly over there checkin' out the goods.

    Thank you, Sir Scott.

  3. I was immediately elated in this find. There's nothing like justifying one's questionable habits with science...Ignoring the latter half of the artcile leaves me in good spirits.

    Thanks, Rusty!
