  1. Cory Chisel went to my high school and I have an unreasonable dislike of him. I think part of it stems from the fact that my favorite high school band, The Del-Magnums (who played instrumental surf covers with go-go dancers), beat Cory's first band, Breathing Machine (who were Christian Rock), in a Battle of the Bands and all of the popular kids who were fans of Cory's original music threw a hissy fit that he lost b/c The Del-Magnums didn't write all their songs. Anyway, I see Cory at bars sometimes and he's always wearing his rock star faux-boho-cowboy thing which looks nice but just makes me think about how all the kids who went to high school with Bob Dylan must have thought he was a big faker who can't stop dressing up. Like, dude, you're not on stage, wear t-shirts and shorts! It's 95 degrees out!

  4. wow, that's random. smaill world. yea, i get frustrated with people when they pull that shit too. i must say, i was pretty impressed with their set.

overall, it was a huge success, and i would be shocked if they don't start doing it every year. they had two stages set up that were pretty close to each other, so when one act finished, the other stage would start up within minutes, so there was hardly any down time, which was sweet! i hope it just keeps getting bigger.

  7. Don't know if you'll see this but I do like Corey Chisel's music. It's just one of those things where I think it is better to not know too much about the artists behind the music when the story can't be constructed to suit the musical narrative. Like if you knew Tom Waits as an awkward teenager it'd be harder to buy him as the guy he is now.
