New LCD Soundsystem
I still haven't made my mind up about these dudes. Some of it is sweet. Some of it is annoying. Their new album fits that same description. "I Can Change" is pretty good.

The Most Amazing Music Video
This music video recently won the One Show Design Awards 'Best in Show', made by choreographing individuals all over the world in front of their web cams. And, on top of being a great video, the song is pretty great.

Congrats Dr. Wode!!!
Three pieces of advice for the new Dr. Wode.
1) Never forget the rhythm of the world....1,2,3,4
2) Always make sure to keep your irrational fears in a safe place....
3) And remember....never, ever, ever, listen to Tom Cruise!

Phish on Jimmy Fallon
Phish played their rendition of the Rolling Stone's "Loving Cup" on Late Nite w/ Jimmy Fallon yesterday. This has always been one of my favorite covers that they do. They did, however, have to keep the jamming to a minimum since the show is only an hour long :)

To Mander...
Is this what you were telling me about a while back? I think your project made the news!!
$5M Project Aims To Clear Carter Lake Water
Chemical Will Starve Algae, Officials Say
OMAHA, Neb. --
A $5 million project to be conducted during the next two weeks will starve algae in Carter Lake and clear up the water, officials said.
A chemical called alum will be added. It has never been used before at Carter Lake, but the Carter Lake Preservation Society said the chemical is entirely safe. Fishers can even fish from the shore during the process.
The project is five years in the making.
"We had to get together, the two cities, two counties, two states, because everybody was pointing fingers -- well, it's an Iowa lake, no, it's a Nebraska lake, no it's all of this," said Carter Lake resident Jeanne Eibes.
As the alum is added, the algae will starve. The results should be clear relatively quickly, a different story than now.
"When you stand in the lake waist-deep, you can't see your feet. When you put your hands in the water, you can't even see your hand if you bend over. So what this tells us is it's not a fun lake to be in," Eibes said.
The improvement should be dramatic and fast, she said.
The next phase begins in September, when fish will be removed and new fish will be added.
"You can take as many fish as you want, and they're safe to eat," said Tetra Tech's John Holz. "There's not a chance that it could get caught up in fish tissue, in the filets or muscle tissue, for example. The fish in the lake are safe to eat before and after the treatment."
Water clarity should improve to about eight feet within a matter of days, Eibes said.
The lake's treatment should be done by Memorial Day. The project is funded by the cities of Omaha and Carter Lake, and the states of Nebraska and Iowa.

uff! been a crazy couple of days
so, album leaf in philly sunday night was with a string quartet (recommended). we saw some dude on the street with a pet parrot. (not the touristy situation in a scheme for money, just some dude with his pet). it was in a church in the middle of center city--pretty crazy watching this from a church pew, especially with hipster's drinking booze out of paper bags. great show though!
and then pearl jam in stl last night!! one for the books. (this one's for you brendan) when they opened with "sometimes", i turn around and see a cop, a dude with a drink tray full of 10 dollar beers, and a blind dude standing in the same area... next thing i know, tray of beer is thrown on the cop, mase was involved... after talking to the guy in front of me, i think the blind guy accidentally spilled the dude's beer, and he flipped out.. there was a scuffle with the blind dude right in the mix. fucking crazy!! and scary. i felt bad for the blind guy b/c he was obviously there for the music (and who could blame him) shit just keeps gettin' weirder.

Sex and the Single Girl
Caught this on television the other week and fell in love with some of the soundtrack. It reminds me of some of Jon Brion's stuff for Eternal Sunshine, I Heart Huckabees, and Punch-Drunk Love.
It's by Neal Hefti, the guy who also did the The Odd Couple and the old Batman tv show. The strings in The Odd Couple theme song are pretty luscious.

How to other america lives
Ever wonder what the "other america" listens to? The other america that Anne Braden fought against with the veterans for hope project?
Well, I found it... A cross between Redneck Hillbilly music & heavy metal.
